James G. Cosgrove, CPA, CVA, MST
James G. Cosgrove provides tax services to individuals, estates and trusts, flow-through entities, international businesses, multistate companies, and entities requiring business valuations. With more than 35 years in public accounting, Jim has experience in a variety of industries, including manufacturing, utilities, service and distribution companies, medical practices, printing companies, and not-for-profit organizations. His extensive national and international tax knowledge includes estate and gift taxes, treaty interpretation and application, structuring cross-border transactions, minimizing worldwide tax burden, expatriate and inpatriate planning, and international estate planning.
As part of Jim’s international tax concentration, he is actively involved in HLB International, a worldwide organization of independent accounting and advisory firms of which DHL&S is a member. He has authored articles on tax and financial planning, and has conducted numerous training programs and seminars on a variety of topics including federal income taxation, state and local taxation, international tax, estate planning, and valuation. Jim earned a Certified Valuation Analyst certification, and his broad range of valuation experience includes transfer tax issues, buy-sell agreements, mergers and acquisitions, and litigation support. He is a member of the National Association of Certified Valuation Analysts and has served as an expert witness, a special master and a receiver in shareholder litigation cases.
Jim is a member of the German American Chamber of Commerce and has served on the Boards of Directors of various not-for-profit organizations. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Connecticut Society of Certified Public Accountants. Jim earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Maryland in College Park, Maryland, and a Master of Science degree in taxation from Pace University in New York, New York.
